Interview: Jack Thompson

I (Molotov Cupcake) was given the opportunity via Popzara to interview Jack Thompson regarding recent events. I am reprinting the interview in its entirety here to see that the information is spread throughout the internet! You can find it below. My questions are in bold, and Jack’s answers are beneath them.

Love him or hate him, the industry’s most controversial figure returns to Popzara for his second exclusive interview, as Jack Thompson once again takes the hot seat for another round of grilling and thrilling.  We welcome Jack back to discuss the recent passing and subsequent veto of Utah’s House Bill 353, as well as his recent letter to President Obama for a total ban of all violent video games. Ever-passionate and fired up about keeping the “killer games” out of the hands of youngsters everywhere, Jack’s crusade is far from over.

Review: MLB 09: The Show

Generally, PSP titles cannot hold up to their big console brothers’ editions. Unless you’ve got an innovative puzzler or cutesy game that relies more on its charm to be a good game, chances are the product isn’t going to be that spectacular. It’s become a platform that continually receives the short end of the stick when it comes to receiving viable titles, but it’s still great for one very important thing: portability. There has always been a dearth of excellent sport titles for portable play, especially in an age where consoles continually dominate the field rather than their handheld counterparts. This year’s MLB 09: The Show for the PSP has outdone itself as a real competitor for the bigger and more fleshed out renditions that you’ll be paying the big bucks for. Not only is it excellent as a PSP title, but it is only outshined by its PS3 edition – that’s saying a lot, when you consider the percentage of shovelware that handhelds continue to endure year after year. MLB 09: The Show is a great game of baseball for those of you who like your sports action on the go.

Impressions: Watchmen: The End is Nigh

As an avid follower of the Watchmen comic series, I felt it was my duty to partake in the movie that was released only a few weeks ago. I found it to be both a compelling and accurate translation from comic to silver screen, and subsequently became more engrossed and involved in the Watchmen fandom. Being knee-deep in an exploding fandom means one of three things: you may become annoying, you may make a lot of enemies, and you will spend a good lot of extra money that you probably don’t have. I have fallen prey to each tenet of said fandom, but I am not filled with remorse.

News: Bioshock 2 Subtitle Axed

Sorry, guys – don’t mean to crush any dreams here, but BioShock 2’s subtitle, Sea of Dreams, has officially been axed. Just as we were beginning to warm to the idea, too! The nerve! Keen eyes at Primotech took note of Game Informer’s glaring omission of the subtitle and confirmed the axe with a 2K community representative. Joystiq took the case one step further and got in touch with 2K as well. After being given the exact same reponse via BioShock 2’s publicist, the change can most definitely be considered official. However, that’s not all the events that transpired.

News: Castle Crashers Pillages Game of the Year Award from Xbox Live Arcade

After some heated competition during the Xbox Live Arcade Awards, The Behemoth’s Castle Crashers has walked away with the title of Game of the Year for 2008. The awards, having been chosen by the public themselves rather than some preappointed council, were held via the Dashboard, where gamers could vote on each title in the running via a quick and easy ballot. Though Castle Crashers walked away with the definitive honor, it was also graced with Best Co-op Mode and Best Original Game. Not bad, not bad!
