Impressions: Treasure Seekers 2: The Enchanted Canvases

Seek-and-find adventures and the iPhone are a match made in heaven. They’re easy to pick up and play, appeal to players of all ages, and provide a few hours of accessible entertainment neatly wrapped with a shiny little bow. More often than not these days, these so-called casual affairs come bundled with an engaging plot to keep you scouring the screen for those carefully tucked away items. My latest endeavor, Treasure Seekers 2: The Enchanted Canvases from G5 Entertainment, has quickly captured my heart much in the way a previous review title, Vampire Saga: Pandora’s Box did, and right now, I’m looking forward to seeing more from this developer.

Impressions: Pixeline and the Jungle Treasure

Platformers are tricky, and that’s especially true on the iOS platform, which includes the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad. Virtual controls are iffy, and to make a workable platform control scheme, you need to ensure onscreen navigation is precise down to every movement. Review: Sonic 4: Episode 1

I may not have had a chance to experience the wonders of the Dreamcast during my childhood (I am now!), but I certainly was the proud owner of a Sega Genesis. And of course, I had many a Sonic the Hedgehog release. I never could master them completely, but the characters, the colors, and the pure speed kept me coming back. Mmm, sweet speed. To this day, that’s still my favorite thing about the original series of classic Sonic games. They feel “right.” Sure, sometimes finding the right way to go without jumping into a pit of spikes is infuriating, but so is a one-hit kill as a small Mario.

Impressions: Rocketeer

Rocketeer is billed as an “extreme physics” puzzler, though it’s anything but extreme. In reality, it’s a subdued and often routine travel “thinker’s game” for the iOS (iPhone/iPad) that has little to offer in the way of graphics or plotline, but serves up 80 levels for eager gamers to plow through in a hurry. It’s nothing particularly standout, but once you start playing it can be tough to tear yourself away. And that’s where they get you, isn’t it?

Interview: Dave Castelnuovo of Pocket God

In Apple’s growing world of mobile applications, few have stood out like independent developer Bolt Creative and their best-selling Pocket God phenomenon. Selling for the mere pittance of just $.99 through Apple’s iTunes marketplace, this strange mix of simulator meets screensaver has already moved to the top of the charts – and over one million copies – since it was first released, and thanks to a growing fanbase and continuous updates, it looks like we haven’t seen the last of our little Pygmy friends.
