Review: Family Game Night – Battleship

Battleship has always been one of the better pieces of the game selection via Hasbro. Appealing to the sailor you probably always wanted to be, it’s a staple of many childhoods and even adulthoods, because it never gets old, telling your opponent “YOU SANK MY BATTLESHIP!” in a shrill, desperate whine. Because you never know – that might turn the tides in your favor. With EA and Hasbro’s Family Game Night, you can finally relive those proud moments of your past (or maybe last week, when your power was out and you realized a board game may be a great way to pass time). There’s fun to be had by all in this addition to the package. However, the question must be asked – is it worth the 800 Microsoft points?

Impressions: Watchmen: The End is Nigh

As an avid follower of the Watchmen comic series, I felt it was my duty to partake in the movie that was released only a few weeks ago. I found it to be both a compelling and accurate translation from comic to silver screen, and subsequently became more engrossed and involved in the Watchmen fandom. Review: R-Type Dimensions

R-Type has been heralded as a classic shooter. Simple and straight-to-the-point, it’s a quintessential favorite of both old and new gamers. R-Type Dimensions, available via Xbox Live Arcade, takes the original formula and gives it a striking new update. Is it faithful to the original or does it tarnish the good name of the series?

For a game that’s always been known for its frustrating difficulty, R-Type Dimensions is a blast to play. Offering both R-Type and R-Type II to wade through, this is a lovingly crafted rehash of the original games. Every facet of the game has been seamlessly integrated into both a 2D and 3D spectacle to behold. You can even view the differences at any time by pressing the Y button.  Other than this unique addition, these R-Type reworkings are the exact same ones you may remember from back in the heyday of the arcades.

Review: Meteos Wars

Though there quite a few puzzlers out there that you could choose over Meteos Wars, it’s recommended that you give the latest iteration of Q Entertainment’s darling a chance. Making the leap from its ubiquitous Nintendo DS debut to the Xbox Live Arcade remixed and relaunched as Meteos Wars, it’s an impressive block-stacking title that should please even the most discerning of puzzle fans – that is, if you are wanting to play alone.
