Review: Leedmees

Remember Lemmings? Those helpless little guys would walk straight off a cliff if you’d let them. And I let them, more often than not, because I found it hilarious. When faced with Konami’s Leedmees, an Xbox Live Arcade Kinect title seemingly inspired by those impressionable little creatures, I was intrigued. First of all, what in the world were those bizarre stick-men featured on the game’s artwork, and what kind of Kinect motion control could possibly be used here? The answers were actually quite impressive.

Review: Fruit Ninja Kinect

Like Angry Birds, I had never heard of Fruit Ninja until it rose to incredible heights of popularity. As a consistently top-ranking mobile app, it’s finally making the leap to plenty of other platforms (including Facebook), and most recently Xbox Live Arcade. And where its life as an iPhone/iPad app relied heavily upon usage of the touch screen, Fruit Ninja Kinect now has the power of the Xbox 360’s pricey peripheral to back it up. While core Xbox 360 users such as myself still have yet to find a meaty title to sink our teeth into, Fruit Ninja Kinect is as satisfying as it is bizarre, as long as you break up your gameplay sessions into short, juicy chunks.

Review: Wipeout: In the Zone

I’m not usually a big fan of network TV. I’ll stick to series on DVD and Netflix, thank you very much. Of course, that doesn’t mean I don’t channel surf. Occasionally I come across a blatant rip-off of the English-dubbed Most Extreme Elimination Challenge (MxC), a hilarious take on the Japanese game show Takeshi’s Castle. It’s brilliantly rewritten with crude jokes and entertaining commentators, and I can usually count on it for a few laughs. Unfortunately, America decided it needed to create its own similarly-themed equivalent, Wipeout. Only rather than running contestants through different challenges, all if not most of the competitors on Wipeout compete in water-based obstacle courses complete with pithy commentary to accompany their pitfalls and failings.

Review: Sonic Free Riders

If Sonic the Hedgehog has been on your bad side for a few years now, it’s quite understandable. I’m still a fan, myself, despite the haphazard attempts at 3D adventures in recent years. In terms of my own personal Sonic list of disappointments, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) was a complete and total disappointment and is where the so-called fastest thing alive almost lost me, but the fantastic and Super Mario Galaxy-esque Sonic Colors recently rekindled my love for all things furry, blue, and be-sneakered. It may seem a bit unfair, then, that I returned to Sonic Free Riders in order to offer my opinion, when I’m riding high off of one of the best Sonic games of recent times. But here we go.

Review: Dance Paradise

I never thought I’d see the day where dance games would become so popular. As a Dance Dance Revolution vet, I’ve gleefully accepted the Kinect revolution with open arms. Dance Central, then Dance Masters, and now Dance Paradise — it’s a regular fantasy land for those of us who like to get our groove on.
