I admit, at first I was quite skeptical about The Munchables, seeing as it brings to mind the delicious pizza treats I enjoy, and the crackers and meat combos from my school days. Still, I am very much a glutton for everything cute and inviting. Ever apprehensive about the Wii’s expanding library, I took the plunge. After giving it a fair shot, however, I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining it actually is. Granted, it’s no game of the year, and it will get looked over as fun games often do, but its strange mixture of Katamari Damacy meets Pac Man is actually quite brilliant.

Impressions: Red Faction: Guerrilla
Red Faction is a franchise that has been largely ignored over the years, mostly due to the fact that it didn’t bring much of anything new to the table regarding the genre. Its earlier renditions were FPSs, and now with the release of Red Faction: Guerrilla, Volition is hoping to change our perception of the series with some delicious destruction and havoc. Though the game releases on June 9th, I was lucky enough to give the demo a try. What has Red Faction: Guerrilla brought to the table? To be quite blunt, a lot of the same flavor we’re used to being fed from triple-A titles. However, the sprinkles on top of the sundae are quite satisfying.
Impressions: Watchmen: The End is Nigh
As an avid follower of the Watchmen comic series, I felt it was my duty to partake in the movie that was released only a few weeks ago. I found it to be both a compelling and accurate translation from comic to silver screen, and subsequently became more engrossed and involved in the Watchmen fandom. Being knee-deep in an exploding fandom means one of three things: you may become annoying, you may make a lot of enemies, and you will spend a good lot of extra money that you probably don’t have. I have fallen prey to each tenet of said fandom, but I am not filled with remorse.
Impressions: Ninja Blade Demo
Ninja Blade has been on my radar for several months now. Some have labeled it a direct ripoff of games such as God of War or any other normal hack-and-slash title, and they’d be correct. However, I’m the kind of person who will give anything an honest chance, and how can you do too much wrong with ninjas, gore, and action? Er, don’t answer that – I’ve played Nightshade. Though Ninja Blade’s demo isn’t set to appear to the public until March 7th, I was given the opportunity to taste the carnage a few days early. Does it live up to what positive hype it’s gotten? The demo did indeed showcase a gripping performance, but left me aching a bit for hack-and-slash done right. It’s still relatively unclear how the full game will measure up to the demo, but what was presented should delight fans of the genre.
Impressions: Resident Evil 5 Demo
After much anticipation, the English demo of Resident Evil 5 has finally been released. Though you technically could have snagged it while it was available via Japanese Xbox Live, the long wait is finally over. Does it uppercut the shuffling masses in the face, or does it double itself over in pain?
With the game set ten years after the events of the original Resident Evil transpired, Resident Evil 5 follows Chris Redfield during those ten long years. As a member of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), he and partner Sheva Alomar tackle Africa to investigate the source of the virus. Starting up the demo, you’re treated to two different areas: Shantytown and Public Assembly. It’s a safe bet that they’re two segments of one chapter since they are so similar to each other.
