Review: Paws & Claws: Pet Resort

I’m a sucker for any video game that’s related to animals. Unfortunately, I am forced to pass most of them up, simply because they are generally of such horrible quality. Though, I like to give them a chance anyway. Unfortunately, with my latest venture, I was terribly disappointed. Paws & Claws: Pet Resort is not the worst animal-related game I’ve ever tried, but it certainly isn’t the best, either. It does offer some intricate tasks for children to perform, which is quite admirable, but as a whole it falls flat – perhaps it would have worked better as a DS title.

Review: A Kingdom for Keflings

As one of the very first titles available with avatar support for the NXE, A Kingdom for Keflings had some lofty standards to live up to. It had to be fun, cute, and impressive. And guess what – it fit the bill. Though I’m a little late to the party I can most definitely understand why many of my Live friends list and those I communicate with regularly are still playing it from time to time. NinjaBee has done a great job with creating an accessible, relaxing RTS-lite title that most anyone can enjoy. Continue Reading →

Review: Bionic Commando

Nearly 20 years after the release of the original Bionic Commando, Super Joe has returned to grace our modern consoles with a new installment to the franchise, simply titled Bionic Commando. Sorry, arcade purists – he won’t be found in the limelight here. You’ll be taking up the mantle of Nathan “Rad” Spencer, star of the hit NES title, instead. Were you excited? In the spirit of taking classic franchises, slapping an ill-conceived sequel onto them, then marketing them as XTREME and mindblowing, Capcom presents us with a direct sequel to the original arcade hit. While it proves a decent amount of challenge, as well as obvious graphical improvements, it ends up conjuring, well, every OTHER third-person shooter I’ve ever devoured.

Review: Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventure: Fright of the Bumblebees

The Xbox Live Arcade is seriously lacking in quality point and click adventure games. Microsoft gamers were not gifted to the magic spun by Telltale Games via Sam and Max, so perhaps this is penitence. As it turns out, four episodes of the Wallace and Gromit series are currently in development, so if you happen to enjoy the first one, you’ve got four more coming your way!

Review: Blue Dragon

The face of RPGs is ever-changing. As an Xbox 360 owner (and soon to be PS3 owner), those are some of the games I was most excited for to see in the next-gen revolution. The beautiful graphics, engaging storylines, and memorable characters who would stick with me long after the console was turned off – they got me hyped beyond belief. The best place to start? A good old JRPG. Akira Toriyama is one of my absolute favorite artists due to his work on Dragon Ball Z, so when I heard about Blue Dragon the wheels in my mind got to turning – I had to make it part of my collection. A fated trip to GameStop netted me my prized purchase. If I had known then what I know now, it would have just stayed right there on the shelf.
